How do I go about getting my research published?

Over the summer I had a research project I worked on, conducted within a hospital. I really think that the information found is significant. What are the next steps I need to take to get my results published. How do I go about getting my research published?
A science journal (BMJ, Nature) would be a good starting point, provided somone (senior) can verify your claims or co-author your paper. You could try a univ. professor who deals in that subject matter but don't give out too much info (just that u proved 'x'), them b*tches will steal your ideas and produce their own paper without a stench of guilt. Others will belittle your claims. How do I go about getting my research published?
Marketing is the best way forward for someone who wants to get their work printed.

There are many mediums in which you can travel, but no matter what form - be it newspaper, magazine, journals, online media - the best way to get published is to go directly to the source.

Do research into what publications you would like your work to be printed in? For example, when it comes to medical research papers, you might consider professional medical journals such as:

a) The Journal of the American Medical Association ( http://jama.ama-assn.org/ )

b) The New England Journal of Medicine ( http://www.nejm.org/ )

But, I would keep my options open by submitting to as many publications as possible. For example, you could submit your research to any health section of any major newspaper.

c) New York Times ( http://www.nytimes.com/pages/health/index.html )

d) Boston Globe ( http://www.boston.com/news/health/ )

Whatever you decide, submitting your article for publication is easy. Find publications, contact the editors via contact or submit links at the bottom of most webpages, and wait to hear back from them. If they are interested, they will contact you and set up the paperwork and so on.

To sum everything up... just get your work out there and see who bites. How do I go about getting my research published?
Determine which professional (and peer reviewed) journal is closest to your research. Go to their website. They will have a section for authors that will explain the steps you need to take to be published.
It will have to be peer reviewed before any reputable journal will consider it.
