What direction is research taking currently to cure Brain Tumors?

Hey everyone, can someone please tell me What direction research is taking currently to cure brain tumors?

Also, if you get your information from a website, can you please list it. Thanks! What direction is research taking currently to cure Brain Tumors?
There are so many websites on this subject. There is no cure, but great strides have been made in identifying the cells and what goes wrong. If they can figure out what goes wrong, they can work towards stopping it from going wrong. One of the more currents research, studies, and trials is a vaccine made from your own tumor cells. This being said, assuming you meant cancerous brain tumors. If not, then brain tumors are treated with surgery and radiation and often, don't grow back, but sometimes still do, at a higher grade. What direction is research taking currently to cure Brain Tumors?
thank god this is no longer the 1960's.........the chance of curing a brain tumor is next to zero..........

i know a neighbors niece that had a pretty big tumor, and with pin point radiation treatments and chemo therapy she was well after treatment.......

but when you have your brain invaded by radiation and chemo and portions of tumor are removed from your brain......their niece was just not the same mentally, had temper tantrums.......and went back a grade in school......

you get well, but then you have to over come and get help to get your life back together........

What is the difference between deterministic and stochastic operations research?

I am hoping to study operations research and eventually write a thesis. What is the difference between deterministic and stochastic operations research (in the sense of economics)? Is it just non-random vs. random? Also, which would make a better focus for research and eventually a thesis topic? What is the difference between deterministic and stochastic operations research?
Deterministic means the thing you are studying is not influenced by chance.

Stochastic meast the thing you are studying is influenced by chance.

Example: Calculating the gravitational pull of the earth. You can argue abit about it. But the thing you are studying is a CONSTANT. It doesn't fluctuate at all. It's either 9.81 or 9.80, or something else.

Stochastic example: The diffusion of ink in water. There isn't a state in which you can say "with 100% certainty, ink is going to reach this part of the water", since it's all random motion in water. You can model it though.

What is a good research paper topic about religion or abortion?

Hello,

We have to do a research paper that needs to be 5 to 6 pages long. We can write about anything we want. I am interested in writing something about religion (how it is negatively affecting society) or something pro-abortion. Any good topic ideas anyone can think of?

Thanks in advance! What is a good research paper topic about religion or abortion?
Yes, abortion is wrong. The Lord has said, "You shall not murder," (Exodus 20:13). The life that is growing within the mother is a child, a baby. The Bible looks at the life in the womb as a child. Exodus 21:22 says, "And if men struggle with each other and strike a woman with child so that she has a miscarriage, yet there is no further injury, he shall surely be fined as the woman's husband may demand of him; and he shall pay as the judges decide," (NASB).1

The main concern of the "Pro-Choicers" is not the guarded protection of the life in the womb. Instead, the main concern is the "rights" of the mother over and against the rights of the child growing in her. The child, who cannot exercise its own will, is killed. And, in order to make the killing more palatable, the baby is called a "fetus", or "non-viable", or "not yet human", etc. This eases the conscience. But, for those who say the baby isn't 'viable', have you ever seen a sonogram of an abortion? You can see the 'non-viable fetus' retracting from the instruments of death and seeking self preservation. It wants to live. Some would respond by saying that even a rodent wants to live. But what is in the womb of the mother is human.

Finding and choosing the right creative writing topics can be challenging. Before we can write we need to have something to write about. There is a big difference between having to say something and having something to say. So how do we go about finding the right topics? I would recommend reading through the hints and tips on picking the right essay topics at http://www.creativewriting-prompts.com/c鈥?/a> . The advice is practical, easy to use and something that you will refer back to time and again. What is a good research paper topic about religion or abortion?
Since one of the sub arguments is on the difference of when life begins, I suggest you use that as a topic.

When does human life begin: What is the proper definition of human life?

Some antiabortionists claim this is before conception. However, most anti-abortionists claim this is at conception.
Ok, now I'm worried about my future academic career...that's a lot of pages...

Hm, how abortion is a choice that anyone can say no to, and often it is necessary to preserve one's dignity (for example, rape victim)? What is a good research paper topic about religion or abortion?
Maybe about how abortion could help in the long term since there would be less of a population and therefore more resources?

You could also include how many pro-lifers (though I like to call them anti-choicers) want to keep abortion illegal, yet make no attempt to help those already here.
No one is "pro-abortion"! Some people like myself are just in favor of medical procedures rather than coat hangers (or worse).

This is the best post %26amp; response I've ever read on this issue. It might give you something new to think about! Artificial wombs, fetal transplants, etc....

How important is research in writing a fictional work based on true events?

How important is research in to correct dates, politics etc., under these circumstances, in your opinion? Do details have to be accurate, or can you convey a 'as long as the general context is right, this is just a ripping good yarn' approach to your work which the reader hopefully picks up on?

What do YOU think, your own personal opinion?

Cheers! How important is research in writing a fictional work based on true events?
I think it is vital.....if you are basing a story on true events then you need to be very accurate....otherwise the reader will quickly realise the premise if false. There is nothing worse than reading a book, even a fiction set in an area of the country you know, than to find the little details are wrong......have you never got a book from the Library and found some people have written corrections in the margin.

Look at the Da Vinci code, there are a lot of details in there, which are obviously well researched and add a lot to the book
It's critical! How important is research in writing a fictional work based on true events?
I feel that if the work is based on true events then it is paramount that the research is exhaustive. The more details that are correct, the more you convince your readers. But I think also that "truth" is in the eye of the beholder! Good luck.
If you really really wants to make it based on real facts, research is of paramount importance. The idea is to create a side story matching the real events, you can't do that without knowing all the details that will interact with your story.

Your story is going to develop parallel to the real events and they will have to interact constantly. The inconsistencies are going to look bad.How important is research in writing a fictional work based on true events?
I think it's important to at least do the research. You can fiddle around with the timeline for the sake of the narrative, but it's important that you know what it is you fiddle. That way you won't make some egregious error that'll make an educated reader groan.
I think that if you're writing an historical novel or story based on real people, places and events, valid dates, costumes, parallel happenings, etc. give your fiction a ring of authenticity. Research is so easy these days with the Internet, it's just pure laziness not to do it.
Well, I think it all depends on how realistic you want you readers to feel the work is. Some people like to know that it's fiction but still feel as though it's a REAL story if you know what I mean. I think if you're going to be talking about very specific things like the bombing of Pearl Harbour then you should definitely do your homework but if it just general things like the hippy years then you can afford to be less accurate.

Stephen King wrote a fabulous book called On Writing and he specifically addresses this issue. He seemed to think that the best way to tell a story is to keep it within the confines of what you know so you don't have to check facts all the time because then your writing gets bogged down. He also said that you can be very general with background stuff as long as you are very hands-on with the story at hand.

As for me, well, I like to do background research on my short stories because I just want them to sound as believable as I can. Yeah, and I enjoy doing it so that makes a big difference. Good luck!
If you want to attract a loyal following of educated fans, you have to have your facts right. If a trivial fact or date is wrong it will stick in the craw of a knowledgeable reader. If you want them to read more of your works, impress them.
Very important.

If you are writing about a specific event, you should research it. There is nothing

more annoying than reading a book and finding a glaring mistake in it.

I recently read a book that had a glaring error in the first few pages, it just made me wonder how much else the author hadn't been bothered to research.

This particular author said that the child in the story was 10 years old, and then proceeded to give them a Saturday job, in present time!

Saying that though, it really is up to you, but your book will be held in higher regard if you research it fully.

I'll say no more.
Write what you know. Research is pretty easy in today's google world. Accurate dates, and the like, add reality to a story you want to fill in with fiction. Inaccuracy distracts from your story, especially if the facts of a situation are well known.

If you want your story to change the outcome of factual history, then you need to begin with accurate facts and twist from there.

Good luck with your writing, and there is much to be said for changing the what happened for the what if...especially in today's world!
I think accuracy is very important because you are dealing with real events and real people's lives (presumably), and treating them flippantly may cause offence. Also people can be very pedantic about inaccuracies in books based on real events. And how can you write about something if you don't actually research about it?
research in any case is important, unless you write something completely random and not something that happens on the planet Earth.

Details aren't always necessary. BUT if you include details, they should be accurate, and when used correctly, might absorb the reader even more.

For example, take Harry Potter. The general story is completely fictitious, but the small background details are correct, like King's Cross Station and Tottenham Court Road.
If it is "based on true events" then it doesn't have to be truthful. You can take the general ideas of the events and then write your story based around them.

Unless you are stating somewhere that what you have written is actually what happened then you can have what you like in your story.
If you want to be taken seriously as a writer, you do the research.

If you don't care, don't do it. But I guarantee that unless you're writing science fiction or fantasy, if you just wing it, no one's going to buy your work.

Do the research. End of story.
Essential. If you don't want to do the research then say it is fiction and leave it as that.
It depends.

If you're writing, say, a Civil War novel or other novel set within the context of the "true events" you're basing your story on, then accuracy is crucial. Getting the date of the Battle of Gettysburg wrong, or placing it's action in the wrong order, will guarantee that even if your book is published, readers will completely discount it.

Details about politics, dates, world or local events add authenticity to your work, but the lack of them will make you look lazy, uninformed, and unreliable. Often, those details have an effect on the "true events" as well, so getting them wrong will affect the story.

If, on the other hand, you're taking those true events, and seriously fictionalizing them--changing the setting, time period, names, etc.--then they're less important.

At the same time, strong details often add depth and improve the quality of a story, and again, if the dates, politics, etc., affects the actions of the people involved, then you'll need them, because they make up part of the story.

You can also write the story, disguising everything, and make no claim that it was based on a true story.

What is difference between degrees by research and course work?

Course Work = working by literature

    Research= making surveys

    Course work - take classes.

    Research - conduct research.

What is the difference between scholarly research and anecdotal evidence?

As an undergraduate student, how can I be equipped to utilize scholarly research over anecdotal evidence, when it seems that we are in the process of being taught the rudimentary skills that enable us to one day do scholarly research, but not yet. What is the difference between scholarly research and anecdotal evidence?
Scholarly research is based on science. It is hard fact.

Anecdotal evidence, on the other hand, is just that (i.e., a story).

Although anecdotal evidence may LEAD to scholarly research on the same topic, when it stands alone, the "but it really happened to me/someone I know so it MUST be true for most people" type of "evidence" has very little merit.

~Dr. B.~What is the difference between scholarly research and anecdotal evidence?
Anecdotal evidence amounts to casual observations, whereas scholarly research usually involves experimentation, quantification and in-depth statistical analysis.

An example of the former might include the simple observation that those who exercise routinely appear to be happier, however this alone is insufficient to merit a conclusion. A scholar would formulate a hypothesis, expectations, etc., and then proceed to select subjects and controls, control for confounders, quantitate "happiness" somehow, etc. etc.

What is the difference between psychological research and sociological research?

I have to come up with a research question for my sociology class and my brain is in knots!! Is this questions - "Do video games have a detrimental effect on children's educational development?" a suitable sociological question? Or is it psychological as it refers to learning and child development? If it is not sociological, how would I term a question about the effects of video games on education in sociological terms? What is the difference between psychological research and sociological research?
    Hi Mindstep,

Your question is probably best thought of as social psychological. Notice the independent variable [video games] is an emerging aspect of western culture. Kids are playing video games a lot in recent years. Notice that the dependent variable [children's educational development] focuses on individual cognitive development... a psychological concern. BTW, recent research suggests that video games don't seem to have a negative effect on the cognitive development of children and may actually have some positive results. To refocus on a more sociological level you might investigate how the current educational system is incorporating interactive computer technology into instruction. Regards. What is the difference between psychological research and sociological research?
Another thought, why not just use a research statement ie. Video games have a detrimental effect on educational achievement. Then argue the pro's and con's and in your conclusion you can either conclude by agreeing or not depending on your arguments.

You are right when you say your research question is more psychological... as Osiris says just change the wording a bit. Good luck with your research! What is the difference between psychological research and sociological research?
Either way it should be neutrally termed. I.e. 'In what ways do video games affect a child's learning and development?' or 'Do video games affect a childs educational development?'. Try not to use terms with negative or positive connotations. Even if your results do turn out negative (and you are sure they will) as a researcher you have to be judgment-free.

The title isn't important in determining what subject it is. The important thing would be how the research is undertaken and what theories you use.

If you really want to make it sound more sociological, you could use some terms that relate to what you are studying. For example, using the term socialization or putting in your title question a theoretical perspective that you might use e.g. 'From a Functionalist perspective do video games...' etc.
The difference is that psychology is the study of a person, sociology is the study of people, groups. Your question is suitable for sociology as it references children and not a child.

If you just throw a few ideas my way I would be most appreciative. What is good research essay topic to write about concerning the history of China or Japan?
    Shell Money before Qin Dynasty:

China led the ancient world by introducing shells as a medium of exchange and unit of account in commerce. Like many of their counterparts, our forebears at the end of the Neolithic Age used shells as money. Shells are durable and easy to carry and count so it was used as the universal equivalent. The unit of shell money is peng, which has evolved to mean "friend". Friend is our fortune indeed! There is no agreement on how many clustered shells a peng include. A cluster of 10 shells makes one peng, the commonly held standard unit.

At the end of the Shang Dynasty, northerners in China found it was hard to find enough shells from the south, so they used other materials like pottery, stone, bone, jade, bronze and gold to make shell-shaped money. The bronze shell-shaped coins heralded the mintage of Chinese coin. It was a great leap in the evolution of Chinese currency. Featuring the comparatively unified size, weight and value, the bronze shell-shaped coin entered the circulation smoothly.

After the Spring and Autumn Period, Chu State (present-day Hubei and Hunan) minted coins with Chinese characters. Some of them looked like ants climbing along a nose and some like the face of ghosts. In north China, gold shell, silver shell and gold-plating bronze shell appeared.

Spade-shaped and knife-shaped coins were also popular in northern China. The influence of shell did not fade though it staged out as a currency with the social and economic development.

Shell (bei) is an important character component in Chinese. Almost all things or acts concerning money have the component of shell, such as fortune, poverty, goods, trade, businessman, tribute, greed, expense, compensation, ransom, expensive (as well as noble), and cheap (as well as humble). People like to call their dear children or pets bao bei, or more sweetly bao bao or bei bei, which literally means treasure, and implies to honey or darling.

    Ancient Coins in China:

The currency is a medium for the exchange of commodities; it was the inevitable outcome of such exchanges. In ancient China the currency came in different forms and was made variously from shells, jade, gold, silver, and paper. The following is a brief introduction to ancient coins in China.

Shell money. Shell money was the oldest form of currency in ancient China. As the shells were small and hard in texture, they came in handy as money. By the Shang and Zhou dynasties the use of shell money reached its zenith, and shell money became a symbol of wealth. Even today the Chinese like to call their most valuable objects, 隆掳baobei隆卤, which is derived from the name of the Chinese shell money. In ancient China it was not uncommon to use shell money as burial objects.

Hoe-like Money. The hoe-like money was evolved from an ancient Chinese farming toll. In the early days it bore close resemblance to a hoe. Because the hoe is similar to the shovel. This is why the hoe-like money is also known as 隆掳shovel money隆卤.

Bronze money in the design of seashells. With the development of commodity exchange, the supply of natural shells as the currency ran out of supply. Imitation shell money made from stone, bone, ceramics and bronze was thus invented to make up for the shortage. But eventually it was bronze shell-shaped money that replaced natural shells. It was nor until Qinshihuang unified the currency in 221 B.C. that shells finally were withdrawn from commodity circulation.

Knife-shaped money. Cast of bronze during the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods, the money隆炉s knife-like shape was derived from a certain weapon from old days.

Bronze coin with a square hole in the centre. In the late Warring States Period, Bronze coins with a round hole in the centre first appeared in China. The hole made it convenient to string the coins together. When Qinshihuang unified the nation and the currency, he had the round hole in the bronze coins changed into a square, as the round coin and its square hole is regarded as a reflection of the ancient theory that 隆掳heaven is round and earth square.隆卤 Feudalism lasted for more than 2,000 years, however, despite the changed of times and the currency, the round bronze coins with a square hole in the centre was in use for roughly the same duration. It was after the demise of the Qing Dynasty that they were gradually replaced with paper money.

If the men buried in the local cemeteries are local to the area, you should be able to find information about them from a local historical society. There's one in just about every community in the United States--you just have to figure out where it is. The first place to check is with the librarian at your local library. He or she should be able to help you both with locating local historical societies and should also know if there are any books about the history of your area which touch on the Civil War era.

Your next stop should be the local college or university. I know that "local" is relative, and you may just have a junior college, but that's a fine place to go. You can either speak to a librarian there, or you can ask if they have a history department, and speak to someone there. Both should be able to direct you.

Going a bit higher up the ladder (if it wasn't already covered in the previous step), there should be a state university which has a really, really big library, and which has the private collections of people from your state. Often, it's the oldest public university in a state, but sometimes it isn't--sometimes it's the one which had an in-house scholar who managed to get all the materials moved to their location. A bit of research and a few phone calls will help you track it down. What you are looking for is private collections dealing with the Civil War era.

Often, just a visit to your local library will do it. If you live where the libraries are very small and not well-funded, you may need to go to a larger system associated with a bigger city or with a county. The important thing to remember is that even at the state university level, you will be able to get information about the soldiers from your local level. And no matter how small your community is, do start with the local librarian--people don't realize how much librarians know, and how well they are trained to find information. In smaller communities, the librarian may have been in that position for the last 30 years, and may have a good idea about where private documents are held, etc... That's why that should be your first stop.

One other place to check is your local newspaper's morgue or, if you are lucky, their microfilm vaults. I live in Utah, and we pretty much missed the Civil War out this way, but our oldest newpaper has microfilm going back to when the newspaper was founded. As they modernized, they simply put the really old stuff on microfiche, and they have the films and readers at the county library. When I worked at the library, I looked up information from the WWI era more than once. Since you must be in the East somewhere if you are looking into the Civil War (and it doesn't matter if it's North or South where you are), I am certain that there was a newspaper around during the war. The same newspaper may not be around now, but someone will have bought them out, most likely, and will have kept their morgues. Since you have names and dates from the cemetery, it should be very easy to find more information on the men in a newspaper, even if you find yourself in a basement room looking through dusty boxes.

As for starting out, the best thing to do is try googling the names you have. Often, private people will have done research and shared it on the web. I have found regiment information for people before just by doing web searches. I would say that and contacting people in your local area would be the best places to start. There used to be a site called Civil War Gateway, which had a gazillion links to all sorts of useful information, but I can't seem to find it now.

Oh, one more place to look is to check with your local authorities and find out if there's a website for vital statistics. Civil War Era names and such are no longer protected, so if there is one in your area, you may be able to do research there.

It's a big undertaking, but it should be a fun one. Best of luck!

What is the difference between a research center and a research institute?

Specifically dealing with social and policy research, if that makes a difference. What is the difference between a research center and a research institute?
I'm not sure there is a specific distinction between the activity that those two bodies carry out. However, in my experience the term "center" is more often used when referring to an academic research body (e.g. a policy school at a university whose professors or even students produce research), and "institute" is more widely used for nonprofits that are mostly nonpartisan and whose staff carries out research on a regular basis. I'd say that the actual research produced by an academic center is obviously more in the form of white papers and journal submissions, and independent nonprofits often prepare research reports that are more appealing to a broader audience. Either way, both academic centers and freestanding organizations are usually nonprofits, meaning that they are tax-exempt.

It all depends on who hosts the car auction. If it's your local police station, dealers, etc. You will hear it via newspaper or radio. Generally stuff like that is kept on the down low for several reasons.

More people will show (generated interest)

Which in turn drives up prices, etc.

If its an auction hosted over the internet scroll through the website and see what they have. If nothing is available then simply there really isn't anything available.

One good source for an enormous amount of quarterly and annual financial data is AdvFN. For example, on IBM:

    http://www.advfn.com/p.php?pid=financial鈥?/a>

Click on the "Annual Reports" and "Quarterly Reports" button for the detailed info. There is also a "data downloads" button on that page which can download a chunk of information as a CSV file, but you'll need to go through the free registration process first.

You can also set up web queries to place the annual and quarterly information directly into a spreadsheet. Here's an example of one I created for someone else:

    http://ogres-crypt.com/iqy/advfn-annual-鈥?/a>

After changing the ticker symbol, it will take 20-30 seconds to refresh the queries and get the data for that company.
Yes good work and thankyou for the info. I'm sure I will find it very useful.

How do you research and choose a rental property?

Where can one find information on the average cost of a unit type in a neighborhood and the average rental price of a unit type per neighborhood? Is this information compiled and readily available somewhere or would I have to collect and compile this information myself? If so, what is the best method for doing so? Or, would I ultimately be much better off allowing a real estate agent do the research for me?

I would like to be able to collect general information on local neighborhoods so that I am able to filter my search for only the best properties in a region. Any suggestions? How do you research and choose a rental property?
You need to ID your market, find the types and locations of the homes they would rent, find out how much they will rent them for, look for homes for sale that match all that, pull out the calculator and see if it works.

The best thing do do is pretend you are the renter and start making calls. That is probably the best way to get the info at least to get you started. How do you research and choose a rental property?

What can I research for the Research Methods in Anthropology class?

I'm a week into the class and I already have to submit my research areas - only my professor is a sociologist, and I'm an Anthropology major. I'm not really sure where to start - do you have any suggestions? Keep in mind this is a Research Methods class, so after my research proposal I'll be following up with fieldwork.

Of course I'm not looking for anyone to do my homework, I'm just looking for inspiration. Thanks! What can I research for the Research Methods in Anthropology class?
I had to do this about 26 years ago and I know exactly WHY you are asking this! There is so much cognitive dissonance between these two disciplines it is virtually impossible for somebody trained in one to drop the perspective long enough to do the other.

I chose to focus on male and female speech communities and nonverbal and verbal communication in a public place - this allowed me to do anthropology while pretending to do sociology and incorporated my interests in gender, communication and social power.

My advice is to think of stuff that interests you in anthro and see how it can be squeezed into a sociological approach. If nothing else, you will likely end up doing something your prof has never seen before.

Talk to your academic adviser or the director of the department you want to do research with. They can point you to the right person, or give you some options. I did research because I knew I wanted to go to graduate school and it looks good on the resume. It can also help develop your interests in a subject and give you an idea of what you like and don't like to do.

What is stem cell research and how is it connected to abortions?

I hear that abortions can be good in the sense of stem cell research.

But I do not know what that is, so if someone could explain to me what it is and how abortion would benefit for stem cell research that would be great. Thanks! What is stem cell research and how is it connected to abortions?
The problem came up when they were creating stem cells in a lab, they beleive that destroying stem cells is like destroying life. But now they can get stem cells from living tissue or the yummy leftovers after a birth so there is no need to create them just to destroy them.
Abortion and stem cell research are only related in that they both involve destroying embryos. Hypothetically, aborted embryos could be used for stem cell research, but as far as I know this is not happening. Right now, embryos for research come from in vitro fertilization. When people do IVF to get pregnant, they create several embryos, and implant the best ones in the mother. The parents decide whether to freeze the extra ones for later use, or to destroy them. It is the ones that they want to destroy that can be used for research. These embryos are at a very early stage in development, where they are only undifferentiated cells in a sphere. What is stem cell research and how is it connected to abortions?
Well, stem cell research covers many fields, but it always involves cells at a very early stage of differentiation (stem cells) - which means cells before they have genetically programmed themselves to become a particular tissue, so they have a wide range of "choices" as to what they become.

What it has to do with abortions is that the best way to get stem cells is from an early fetus, we all start as undifferentiated stem cells, but as we develop, those cells divide and specialize to form bones, nerves, muscle, etc. So when a fetus is aborted, the material claimed can be harvested and the stem cells can be used to carry out valuable research that may one day lead to the ability to grow organs in vitro (eliminate waiting lists) and cure some devastating genetic diseases, such as Parkinson's or Huntington's disease.

To address some of the other posts, no abortion is EVER done just to harvest the stem cells, it is a question of whether when an abortion is done whether the tissue is discarded or used for research. Also, although stem cells can come from other methods, not all stem cells are the same, and stem cell lines from fetal tissue are valuable (as are the other lines).
stem cell research is basically taking stem cells (which can grow into virtually any cell in the human body) from fetuses and develop them. then the scientists implant them into people who need a specific type of cells, such as people with parkinson's disease, in hopes that it will replace the defective or lack of cells and cure the disease. if you get an abortion you can give the fetus to a stem cell research centre to, uh, help them. :\What is stem cell research and how is it connected to abortions?
I don't think that abortion is ever "good." I think scientists use stem cells because they can be used to grow tissue, I.E. a heart, lung, etc.. Scientists can "program" the cells to become anything they want.

I did hear that scientists can now get stem cells from mice. And according to the other poster, they can now get stem cells from skin.

Anyways, I really wish all these idiots that go and abort their fetus, just because they don't want a kid, should use contraceptives. It's not that hard.
it's an obsolete question now that scientists have discovered the ability to garner stem cells from living human skin.
the spinal cord from aborted babies, or umbilical cord (i cant remember) contains cells that can heal or replace dead cells

What is the difference between medical research and biomedical laboratory research?

I'm looking through College Board's website for career interests and I can't seem to differentiate between being a just a medical researcher and being a biomedical laboratory researcher. Is biomedical lab research just a sub-field of medical research? They are both listed as different careers in the same category of medicine.

I'm interested in working in the medical lab as a career, but are there different requirements for either careers? And what other opportunities are there for someone who is interested in the medical lab? What is the difference between medical research and biomedical laboratory research?
Biomedical laboratory research is a subcategory of medical research. Medical research encompasses all types of research involving medical issues, including field work, clinical settings, survey analysis, statistical study of computerized medical databases, development of optimal treatment protocols, and many other research areas.

Biomedical laboratory research is a domain of medical research wherein the preponderance of work is performed in a laboratory setting. Nevertheless, it is a very broad field, which includes endocrinology, rheumatology, genetics, immunology, pharmacology, and many subspecialties of medicine. A Laboratory Technician or Laboratory Technologist can readily find careers in biomedical laboratory research, especially if they have a major or advanced degree in biology, chemistry, or biophysics. Masters degrees, PhDs, or an M.D. in any field of medicine, biology, biochemistry, biophysics, or psychology should provide many opportunities in medical research, as well as biomedical laboratory research.

What research is available regarding Emotional Freedom Technique?

I try to keep an open mind about complementary therapies and therefore would reserve judgement on them until i find good evidence for them one way or the other. I am myself an alternative therapist. However, i do find it very hard to accept that EFT could work. Therefore, i suppose i have two questions. What research is available regarding Emotional Freedom Technique?
I once found it hard to believe too. But once I have been in a session where someone suffering from long time heavy migraine got rid of it in this one session. She didn't know about EFT and did another energetic treatment for a while, with result but no satisfying result.

During the session it seemed that the cause for her migraine were a trauma. She thought the trauma was solved through psychologic help she had in the past (from an academically educated university diplom holding person).

Well the person leading the EFT session doesn't even have a high school diplom but through the years she was humble and tried out many things with curiosity.

Of course it's just an anecdote, but a fact is a fact. I could only observe this and her amazing reaction.

I am sure you should be careful with this method. It's not appropriate for everyone, and should be led by the right person, whether he has many diploms are not is not important to me... it's more kind of a talent you should have for these kind of things.
What Dave said. And yes, it is important to keep an open mind about things...however, there are grades of plausibility that should also be considered. The descriptions I have read of EFT...from it's inventor...reek of pseudoscience and mysticism, and don't seem to fit with what we know of how the body works from hundreds of years of increasing knowledge

I did a PubMed literature search, and was unable to find any high quality trials published in reputable medical or scientific journals. Most of the studies in these sorts of things seem to miss an important step....they start looking for things to treat rather than prove the concept itself.

A protocol for proof of concept would be very simple to set up, my guess is that believers would find it unacceptable anyway, which is why it's never been done. What research is available regarding Emotional Freedom Technique?
EFT changed my life. My depression was life long, but l no longer have it. You couldn't have done much research, because you would have become aware of the many lives that have been touched in a very profound way if you had. EFT is based on the fact that what we think effects us physically. This technique is a real gift, you will really do yourself a disservice if you don't look into it. Of course that's you choice. :)
Here is the best place - http://www.eftuniverse.com/index.php?opt鈥?/a>

Although if you're wondering will it work for me? The best thing is to do it fully and completely on many issues to see the results for yourself.

This is my story, i'm now 25 and when I was around 19 or 20 I dreamed of keeping a large home aquarium that would take up basically the entire wall of one side of my living room, since then I have had great luck and sucess in my line of business and finally have the money to accomplish this dream, I know it's somewhat pointless to post this to you but I just thought it might be interesting to some folks, ha! The plans are already drawn, I have nearly 11 guys working on this DIY installation, it is when measured and completed a 2500 gallon long tank the idea for the exact calculation of gallons was found on youtube when I found a similar or exactly sized tank, but I am not sure of how stocking plans work (more experienced in building, welding, and acrylic aspects rather then the fish, i'd hate after all this work, time, money and effort for the fish to be unhealthy or even unhappy. So me and my fiancee did a lot of research and came up with our list, i'd like to know if anyone experienced in monster fish and monster tanks could let me know if this list of appropriate, thank you. It bothers me since i see people posting here all the time about their big tanks..that they are likely lying in regards to having such a large tank but who knows..this is a legit question seeking real answers..

Here are the fish considered for this aquarium (planned sand substrate with large river rocks found in a nearby drained river, a couple plants here and there but not many...) can remove the rocks..if needed.

    * 3 Iridescent Sharks (ALSO need to know if these guys bite, fiancee won't allow any fish that bite..yeah I'm a little whipped don't put it out this is about the fish.)

    * 5 Flagtail Charicans (why is these look so similar to bala sharks..serious a question within a question)

    * 6 Bala Sharks

    * 8 Clown Loach (bottom dwellers)

    * 1 Red Belly Pacu (they don't prefer schools as they age is what I had read so he'd be okay solitary)

    * 6 Red Hook Silver Dollars

    * 1 Silver Arowana

    * 8 Discus (colorful variety)

[I am willing to add/remove fish as needed so say the arowana is too big I haven't purchased any of these fish yet so I can just nix it if it doesn't work into the equation]

Also in a seperate personal dining room tank which I intend to fill with only ANGELFISH seeing as they are much too delicate species for the monster tank i'd like to know how many can comfortably fit in a 40 gallon tall tank? Thanks.Serious question from anyone who is knowledgeable in monster fish and big tanks?
So... where's YOUR proof of having such a large tank? I mean, you are accusing a lot of people on here of lying, right? How do we know you aren't bullshitting us?Serious question from anyone who is knowledgeable in monster fish and big tanks?
    Iridescent Sharks are not bitey.

A red belly Pacu will out grow a 2500 gallon tank.

Discus do much better by themselves, put the Discus in the dining room and the angelfish will be fine in the larger tank. Just start with larger angels.

For my personal taste I'd loose the so called "Sharks" and the Clown Loaches and stick to Amazon fishes. The only Amazon fishes besides Pacus to avoid would be the Redtailed Catfish, and the larger Peacock Cichlids. There are a couple of pencilfish species that would fit your needs, I'd recommend more research.

My iphone 4 is dead and will not charge or turn on?

My iphone must have died last night when I was sleeping and now it will not turn on or charge. The screen is just black. It was working perfectly fine before this and I am stumped on what to do! I tried reseting it by holding the home key and power at the same time for around 15 seconds and nothing happened. I did some research and not much came up. Is there anything else I can try? HELP! i miss my phone :(My iphone 4 is dead and will not charge or turn on?

Is my GMGMQ OTC Stock going to become worthless? If yes, will a stock market order help?

Sigh... I can spend hours researching and still not be sure about what to do here... I held 100 shares of GM stock which lost most of its value when they declared BK. I then purchased 5000 shares of GMGMQ at .56 cents each. The stock closed at $1.21 today. This is the first I've heard here in yahoo the OTC Stock will become worthless. Does anyone know for sure?Is my GMGMQ OTC Stock going to become worthless? If yes, will a stock market order help?
No one knows yet if the GMGMQ stock will be worthless or not...that will be decided during the bankruptcy proceedings...however, the odds are that it will be cancelled and a new stock will be issued.

That said, until the judges gavel hits, the stock is as worth as much as you can sell it.

On a side note...the recent increase in GMGMQ stock price is probably due to investors having to payback their "shorts" as well as day-traders and investors playing market momentum. Theres also quite a few people out there that are buying not knowing that the stock will most likely be cancelled.
Since they own around $172 billion, and their assets only cover less than 1/2 of that, and stockholders are last in line to get a piece of the action, it has been announced that the current stock will be cancelled as worthless. Unless of course a Miracle happens like every car owner in the world gets rid of his car and buys a high margin Cadillac. As the saying goes "Don't hold your breath" or in this case, "your stock."Is my GMGMQ OTC Stock going to become worthless? If yes, will a stock market order help?
Why would you buy 5000 shares of any company that has filed BK? Why is this the first time you've heard that a BK stock will become worthless?

In virtually all cases, stock winds up worthless.

If you can sell the stock. do it now before the BK proceedings confirm $0 value for stock.
GM stock will be worthless, if you can find someone to buy it, sell it. Go to GM.com, read the facts for yourself - look under investor information. SorryIs my GMGMQ OTC Stock going to become worthless? If yes, will a stock market order help?
    Nobody knows for sure.
I dont think anyone knows for sure - i too bought some GMGMQ and i think ill dump it tomorrow.

What's something good to add to boiled rice?

I love plain boiled rice, but lately I've been wondering what kind of sauces/spices I can add to it to make it taste good. I've done research that butter and a bit of garlic is good but I'm not sure about it. I'm not the best of cooks but I would like something easy and quick.

Thanks! What's something good to add to boiled rice?
I love rice and eat it regularly. If I want it mostly plain, I usually just add a vegetable bouillon cube, a little olive oil, minced garlic, and parsley for flavor. I usually prefer a sauce with my rice. I like to puree a can of stewed tomatoes and pour over the rice, or I sometimes add broccoli florets and top with cheese sauce. You can get ready-made cheese sauce like Ragu or condensed cheddar cheese soup. I also like to add black beans and salsa to my rice. There are so many things you can do to it, but if you just want to jazz up plain rice, I would go with the olive oil, garlic, and parsley, or try cooking it in vegetable or chicken broth for added flavor. You might also try topping it with a little hollandaise sauce. You can buy a powder mix for the hollandaise and just add water and cook over low heat until desired thickness. I think it is very good on rice. Hope those ideas help.
My suggestions (any of the following):

-Roasted garlic or raw garlic (it is delicious)

    -Cardamon pods

-Onions: Green, white, yellow, red %26amp; Shallots (especially fried shallots, you can find these at Asian Markets...the flavor is incredible...I promise.)

    -Nut (Walnuts, almonds, cashews, pistachios)

    -Tamari/Soy Sauce

    -Toasted Sesame Oil

-Herbs like thyme, chopped parsley, bay leaf

-Fruits flavors: Orange or Lemon zest (just the thin layer of the citrus fruit, none of the "pith"-the bitter white part, pineapple chunks

-Seasonings: salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, paprikaWhat's something good to add to boiled rice?
Sautee some finely diced onion and finely chopped celery in butter or margarine until transparent but not overly browned; stir in about 2 tbsp chicken broth and 1 to 2 tsps of curry powder. Stir and mix well...pour this into hot cooked rice, throw in a handful of raisins and peanuts and combine. I like to serve this with any kind of other vegetable to serve as a substitute meat course; for vegans, this constitutes a feast. Also good with leftover chicken, lamb or with a tin of tiny shrimp [rinse these well] folded in before serving. Another authentic touch for curried rice things: chopped hardboiled egg, toasted coconut, and [wait for it!] some orange marmalade mixed with pickle relish for a kind of fake chutney. Have you priced a jar of chutney in the last five years? I make my own!
You can add almost anything to rice ....

Chinese 5 Spice ( just a little sweet) %26amp; a drizzle of sesame oil or tahnini

    Nutmeg %26amp; ground white pepper

a little soy sauce %26amp; manderine ogangeWhat's something good to add to boiled rice?
Try adding chicken bullion cubes. Be sure to reduce the salt you add. We also eat a lot of rice with gravy, brown gravy packets are good.

Student's input on University of South Carolina or University of Georgia?

I was accepted to both schools, but would like a current/past student's opinion on their experience at either school.

    What is campus life like?

How is the surrounding area (safety too)?

    How is the climate?

How are opportunities to get involved in research?

How has your experience with faculty been?

    How is off-campus housing?

Why don't the Christian and religious sites ever answer those other sites which don't agree with them about?

the confirmed bible prophecies. From what Ive seen they just won't and don't even try and research what these other sites say about those confirmed bible prophecies being not confirmed because there are so many other possibilities

If some of you folks who disagree with the confirmed bible prophecies could you please leave some links of sites where they show why they don't believe the bible prophecies are fullfilled

ThanksWhy don't the Christian and religious sites ever answer those other sites which don't agree with them about?
Religious people aren't interested in debates - they're interested in pushing their bullsh*t to anybody who will listen - and ultimately getting money from converts.
which prophecies? What makes you think that they have been fulfilled? Given any number of any other circumstances, could the prophecies still be fulfilled? Are the prophecies self-fulfilling? Is there any way to make a homemade dildo or vibrator?

Okay, i've done research on making homemade dildos, but

1, i'm under aged, so i can't go buy it irl or online.

2, if i asked my mum if i can go to the local hardware store she would be like " why do you need it? you don't have that subject until year whatever" and i really suck at lying and convincing and etc.

What is something i can make at home thats simple and easy to make.

I have come up with a few idea but they all failed.

I would love it if you could help me.Is there any way to make a homemade dildo or vibrator?
No matter what you use, I'd advise you to be careful with any insertion as it may tear the lining of your vaginal cavity on the way in...
The hardware aisle may have multiple things you can insert, but most of them run the risk of damaging you inside except maybe the handle of a hammer, screwdriver handle, etc. and if you use any of them, do not use any of them after they've been dirty... The risk of infection is greater in that regard... and soap + water doesn't fix the issue much either...
Toothbrushes and cucumbers are the most common types of homemade devices along with a variation of foods like popsicle sticks, etc. Food is generally a safe bet unless you use something like a hot pepper down there, then you'll be walking odd for the rest of the day...
If you're not looking for anything to riske' or something easily concealable you can always use a cell phone on silent, or people have even used vaccum attachments before. Either way just becareful with anything you use... If it doesn't feel right, dont force it... Even if it feels good, don't go too hard as it's very easy to damage inside especially while you're still developing..

Hope this helps, if you have any questions or just want to talk, feel free to email me Draco924@aol.com, i always love meeting new people... thank you for your time

p.s. and in interest to your previous question, it's not at all bad to masturbate to anime stuff or get turned on... many many many people watch 'hentai' (anime-porn) commonly, including people you may even know

Why is the backlight on my iPod Touch 3rd Gen. so dim?

About 1-1 and a half months ago, I put my iTouch right outside the shower (the shower is "covered" by plastic-y film). The iPod somehow built up water on the screen, which probably went into the electronics of the system. I panicked, turned off the iTouch, and did some research to finally put the device in a bag of rice.

I did that, and the iTouch came out fine--except for the speaker being a little dodgy. (A couple of resets and restarts fixed that.) A month passed and it's perfect, as good as one would be without water damage.

Now, just on Monday (6 days ago), the backlight is faulty. I'll have it good for minutes, maybe hours, and then BOOM. Dim as night without light. Then it'll come back up as I lock-unlock it. Then down.

I did some more research and want to say that the connection between the backlight and something else is faulty (and all I need to do is open up the iPod touch, find that cable/wire/connection, disconnect, and reconnect it).

What is the real problem? Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

    P.S. I don't have warranty.

Is this just a crush? or more than a crush? should I give up or stay hopeful?

Okay, this is long but please take the time. I just want to explain my feelings so you guys can give me accurate answers.. please help?

so I like this guy, the older brother of my classmate. He's 19 and I'm 18. I really like him even though I don't really "know" him. Based on my research (aka: stalking), he's a really nice guy. He's religious, smart, and humble even though he's popular. He doesn't have a girlfriend, and I've been told that his last relationship was still in high school or early part of his college years, he's a junior in college now. He's in the volleyball varsity and of course a lot of girls are crushing on him. But I didn't know that he's in the varsity before I liked him (it means that I didn't like him because he's in the varsity or he's popular)

We never had a conversation. I was just introduced to him by my classmate.

My classmate's kind of a bully to me most of the time. He told me that I shouldn't count on it and that I have no chance with his brother. I couldn't tell if he's actually telling the truth and just helping me to move on or just being a douche like he normally is.. and I didn't ask him either if he's serious because he might say that I'm so foolish for even thinking I have a shot with his brother.

at first it was just a simple crush. But I've come to know that it grew and grew without me noticing. I've been single for a very long time and I've been looking for a stable relationship for quite some time. I'm not the kind of girl who settles for less than what she wants, 'cause I might regret it later. I want a guy who I know I can really love and take seriously. My type is the bad-boy-looking-good-boy and he's that! I feel that he's the guy for me.. but the problem is I know I have no chance with him.

I've had previous crushes, but this one is different! Before, I get frustrated of course if I know that I have no chance with the guy, but I let go easily.. I'll be like.. "eh, what the hell.." and in just a matter of weeks, I've forgotten all about the guy. But this time it's different, it's been more than a month and I want him more than ever. I get sad thinking that I have no shot with him, but at the same time I just can't let go. I'm still hoping. I also pray a lot, I pray more, I go to church even if it isn't a Sunday, that's how I badly want him. I keep dreaming of him too.

I know this is silly. But, what is this feeling? I feel like this is more than a crush.. but is it really possible that this is "love"? Cause I don't think it's possible to love someone if you hardly know him. Is this infatuation? I didn't know infatuation can bring complicated feelings. Also, what is the right thing to do.. give up or stay hopeful?

ps: I know this isn't obsession. If I'm obsessed then I should be waiting outside his school, his house, do some voodoo stuff to really get him. But it's not like that. Heck, i don't even follow him in Twitter or his friend in FB. I don't want to be one of those "fan girls" ;cause I'm not. I've liked him even before I found out he was in the varsity.|||Base on your long paragraphs, I can tell that you are a mature and intelligent young woman, which separate you from average girls. Plus you are religious, which is another great quality, even though praying is kinda naive. Believe in yourself, not in some sort of spiritual being that doesnt exist. No matter how much you pray, if you dont take actions about it, things will never change.

It is not healthy to stalk people and not talk to them. You might think that it is ok if you are not outside of his house creeping, or putting voodoo on him, but you really have a messed up mind if you reach that point. Instead of holding onto your precious self esteem, go and talk to him, you will only learn more no matter what he says. If he likes you, that is a huge reward, if he doesnt, at least you would know and move on without wasting anymore time. Win win situation. Its 21st century, dont expect guys with good qualities to chase after you because there are so many other girls who want the same guy, and certainly dont rely on praying to get things you want. If you are not willing to risk it, then you shouldnt go for him.

When you really love someone, you would do anything, even if it means that you have to ask him out. If you are not willing to risk it, then you didnt really love him afterall.|||Hey girl grow up. Try to cross his path and talk to him, smile at him, whatever. Don't just cream or hope. Take action please and then let us know. Best of luck.|||How do you know you don't have a chance with this guy? Because of what his brother said? Did it occur to you that maybe his brother has a crush on you and doesn't want you to date his brother. Yeah guys are funny like that.
